Friday: I had the day off (while Shalee had a ½ day), so I slept in just a few extra minutes before having coffee and a massive donut from Bostwick Bakery that Shalee had bought for me the previous day; went for a long walk, finished some work updates, then showered and packed for our weekend in Detroit. Our friend Jason, who we met in Detroit, used his points to get himself and us a room at the Hotel David Whitney, for the Nine Inch Nails concert at Little Caesar’s arena that night. Another
friend, Saga, met us all for dinner, before we ran into our other friends, Jeff and Jen, heading into the show, which was AMAZING; easily the best NIN show that I have ever seen them perform of the five times I have seen them live.
Saturday: Slept in a little bit before heading to the Hudson Cafe on Woodward, just a short walk from the hotel (the food was good, but the 45+ min wait was a bit much, but hey, it was Saturday morning and there was a Lions pre-season game at 1:00 PM, so I can’t complain too much). Then we jetted over to the Cass Corridor to Third Man Records (dropped $80+ on vinyl) and sidewalk sales before attempting for yet another time to visit the Detroit-Vs-Everybody store, which is never fucking open despite their hours on their FB page and on Google saying they
opened at noon (we were there about 1:00-1:30 PM), so I think I’m done with them; fuck’em. Then it was time for a quick stop at Srodek to grab some Polish food before heading to Clarkston to spend the afternoon and evening with lifelong friends.
Sunday: Woke up, had coffee in the massive backyard of our friends, Chris and Nasiha, before breakfast together and then a quick trip to a farmstand to buy yellow watermelon, massive tomatoes, and zucchini. A quick stop at bougie Meijer (aka Independence Market) for pasties (it’s a UP thing, eh?) and a long drive home. Chilled, watched, Nonnas on Netflix (loved it!), and then listened to some of my newly purchased vinyl.
We had talked about going to Ludington next weekend, but after two weekends completely full we’re tired and think we may need to chill instead.
Did I mention this was another fantastic weekend, because it was! My adventures with Shalee are the best!
