Huge ship going through the channel to Muskegon Lake
For a weekend where I hadn’t planned on doing all that much, I was busy the entire time.
- Friday: After a long work week and with the girls gone for the night, Shalee asked me if I would like to go to dinner with her. Not being a complete fool, of course I said yes! We went to Downtown Trini’s in Sparta, enjoyed Tex-Mex food, some 60-somethings playing covers of classic rock, each other’s company, commiserating with Trini himself, before retiring home to enjoy some quiet, alone time together.
- Saturday: Set an alarm as we were heading to Holland State Park for a beach day because it was going to be in the 90s and we wanted to be near the water. Got in after not much of a wait and enjoyed a few hours of the beach, the lake, and reading The Mote In God’s Eyes before we got a scary call from our daughter who had just been in a car accident. All is well, both of our daughters are fine, it was more of a small fender bender than anything, but we still packed up and left to make sure they were good, which, thankfully, they were.
- Sunday: Got up early (well, for me) to go mow the lawn but the gas in the can was suspect and the mower wouldn’t run (I can’t exactly remember how old that gas was so I am thinking now that it was too old), then headed home to prepare for another beach day, this time with my old friend Matt. We went to Muskegon State Park because it was again very hot, but also we left too late to assure us a parking spot at Grand Haven. It was a solid four hours of playing in the crashing waves, talking about life, and just hanging out like we did when we were kids, followed by a gathering of Kovacses at Courtland Township park to play pickleball for two hours.
Oh, and we watched a huge ship come into the channel.
I am sore and still tired, which are all signs of yet another perfect weekend!
