Friday: A very chill night as I had been dealing with a cold since Monday evening. Both Shalee and Anilee had gone through it the previous week (thus why Shalee could not go to the MSU game) so I figured I would be through it in 48-60 hours just like them; nope, it finally broke sometime on Friday and now I’m just dealing with residual mucus. We were invited to a bonfire at a friend’s house, but unlike Michael of a few years ago, I realized I need to continue to rest and not try to do everything that sounds like fun, so instead we had leftovers and watched the finale of Wednesday, which we thoroughly enjoyed.
Saturday: Used the morning to clean out my car (Shalee’s behemoth was too large for the parking lot we prepaid for in Detroit next to the venue), do laundry, and pack a light back for our jaunt to Detroit. We took backroads to avoid the construction and inherent slowdowns/stoppages (It only added 9 minutes to our journey), then stopped at our friends Chris and Nasiha’s house to drop off our bags and spend some time with them before heading into downtown Detroit to go see Garbage. Sounds like this is their final North American tour, so I splurged and spent the $40 (yes, $40!) for a concert t-shirt. I was nervous the band would not be up to the task as it’s been 30 years since I last saw them live, but nope, they were excellent!
Sunday: Woke up, had coffee with friends, had a little nosh, talked, laughed, went out to brunch, then drove home, again, taking the backroads. Stopped in St. Johns and made a mental note to visit there again on some day that isn’t a Sunday (when apparently 90% of things are closed there). Got home late in the afternoon and spent the rest of the day chilling (why are road trips so tiring?) before making a simple dinner of shredded BBQ chicken (thank you, Instant Pot) and watching the Emmys™, where I believe Collin Farrell was robbed (I admit I have not yet seen Adolescence, which I assume is very good, but come on…).
I’m sad that the bands I loved in my youth are getting older, even sadder that some are now retiring from touring, but I am grateful that I have been able to see so many of them for what may be the last time.
